How to Cultivate Compassion in Your Everyday Life

AUDIO PODCAST

GoGreenInside® speaks with Rae Hatherton about the Tonglen compassion practice, and how its principles can be applied in a simplified way to many daily situations in which we could benefit from feeling more compassion towards others, or ourselves.

To the degree that we look clearly and compassionately at ourselves, we feel confident and fearless about looking into someone else’s eyes. ”    ― Pema Chödrön

Rae was a guest speaker at the most recent installment of GoGreenInside®‘s ongoing live event series, Courageous Conversations on Living and Dying, where she spoke about the Tonglen compassion practice.

Tonglen is the ancient Tibetan practice of giving and receiving to exchange suffering and pain for happiness, well-being and peace of mind. While often delivered in a formal structure, Tonglen can also be practiced in a simpler, spontaneous way by people of any spiritual belief, working with unwanted feelings directed toward oneself or others. Participants at the live event learned the basics of this compassionate approach to dealing with many kinds of challenging situations, including the emotions often associated with loss.

In this podcast, Rae shares a simplified “on the spot” practice that anyone can do, and offers some very practical examples of how we can use and benefit from this practice in our daily lives.
