Rumble®
Rumble, the new nutritional beverage from Victoria, BC company Groove Nutrition, is the brainchild and passion of founder Paul Underhill. Despite being diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at six months of age, Underhill was very athletic in his teens and 20s, until the illness took its toll – in April 2011, he underwent a double lung transplant. While struggling to remain active and healthy, both prior to and after his transplant, Underhill wanted to find a beverage that would both satisfy his nutritional needs to maintain strength AND taste good. He began experimenting in his own kitchen, realizing that what he was developing would be beneficial for anyone leading a busy, active lifestyle. He later teamed up with naturopathic physician Kim McQueen to tweak and perfect his recipe for Rumble, which contains 20 grams of protein, 8 grams of fibre, as well as significant levels of Omega-3s and antioxidants in every resealable bottle. The beverage contains premium organic ingredients; is naturally sweetened and low in simple sugars; and is soy, gluten and cane sugar free (and 99.8% lactose free). And by the way, Underhill is doing just great, winning two gold medals for cycling in the National Transplant Games this past July, and now training for the World Transplant Games in Durban, South Africa.

There are few things more comforting at this time of year than a warm, nutritious bowl of soup. Happy Planet, the BC-based company best known for its juices and smoothies, also offers a line of “globally inspired” soups, most recently launching two savoury additions: Mediterranean Minestrone – “rich, hearty and laden with white beans and fresh veggies,” and Somerset Garden Pea – “made with fresh peas and cream, with a hint of fragrant mint, evoking the taste of springtime in an English garden.” Added to their existing line, which includes Tuscan Tomato, Moroccan Chickpea, Indian Split Pea, Thai Coconut, Louisiana Corn Chowder and Berkeley Butternut Squash, these soups contain all natural ingredients with no preservatives, are gluten free, and are handmade in small kettle batches for optimum, home-style freshness.

JK Gourmet
JK Gourmet has recently launched its line of “Our Favourite Almond Flour Baking Mixes,” taking the guesswork – and frustration – out of grain-free baking. Using finely ground almond flour (also available from the company) as a base, each mix is pre-sweetened with organic coconut nectar. Coconut nectar is an unrefined sweetener that comes from the sap of coconut tree blossoms (coconut sap harvesting and production is sustainable and does not cause deforestation) and contains nutrients including zinc, iron, B vitamins, magnesium, potassium, and amino acids, including glutamine. Choose from their Cookie, Muffin, Pancake & Waffle, or Pie & Tart Crust mixes – there’s a recipe included with each package to get you on your way.

Carna4 is absolutely the #1 BEST dog food I have tried in many years of owning several dogs. My dogs absolutely love the taste and have had firmer stools. I had a few dogs who were getting sick from other well known brands, even those that say “grain free” and “holistic” but I’ve finally found something they love and is keeping them healthy. They’ve been on it for a couple of months now but I’m very pleased.
