Healing Health Care: The Potential and Promise of Integrative Medicine

With health care costs skyrocketing due to the increased incidence of chronic diseases, aging populations and the reliance on expensive technologies and pharmaceuticals, health care reform in its present form is doomed to failure. True health care reform requires the creation of a system of health promotion and illness prevention, as well as the use of effective alternatives to expensive, invasive therapies where appropriate. This system of medicine already exists in the form of Integrative Medicine, healing-oriented medicine that takes into account the whole person, including lifestyle; emphasizes the therapeutic relationship; and makes use of both conventional and complementary & alternative therapies. Integrative physician Dr. Esther Konigsberg shares her experiences practising Integrative Medicine, and explains its potential for healing your health, and the health care system.
